Techcrunch is reporting that boxing promoter Square Ring Inc. has sued web broadcasting platform Ustream.tv for copyright infringement for allowing a recent match between Roy Jones Jr. and Omar Sheika to be broadcast. Ustream describes itself as a service that “enables anyone with a camera and an Internet connection to quickly and easily broadcast to a global audience of unlimited size” and it appears that at least one user decided to use the service to broadcast the fight.
Square Ring argues that they notified Ustream of their concern in advance of the match to try to proactively implement procedures to stop the match from being streamed but that UStream ignored their requests. Ustream has stated that they believe they are protected by DMCA safe harbor provisions.
